A vintage combo (Priyadharshan-Mohanlal) came back with a bang!

It's a neat crime thriller from a great director whose last few films were below average. Mohanlal is the key in this film. We could see his acting skills through out the film. Even his eyebrows can do magical acting. 2 out of 3 songs are crafted really well. Brace yourself for some serious goosebumps. Samuthirakani, Chemban Vinod Jose, Aju Varghese and Mamukkoya did their roles really well. The gunshots and CGI was perfect. You don't wanna be a Mohanlal fan to enjoy the film. The storytelling is gripping and executed with finesse. Overall it's the best crime thriller of the year till now without a doubt.

An above average movie... a worthwhile watch

Last day i went to watch this movie after i heard a lot of hype rating the movie as exceptional. I have to say that it is a good movie but don't expect too much from it. The climax was somewhat predictable but the movie has its moments. Special praise for the cinematography and the suspense in some scenes. I am actually pleased to tell that the fight scenes where actually very good. It took me back to the time when mohanlal was at the height of his career. My personal opinion is that the 3 songs in the first half of the movie was a bit of an overdo. But things get better during the second half. Mohanlal has done some serious acting and all the other characters are beautifully casted. if not for some things i would have given it a 10 rating. I think that this movie can be considered a valuable addition to the long list of mohanlal movies and special congrats to the team behind it. Best of luck!!

Edge of the Seat Thriller

Oppam is a very good thriller. What worked for the movie is the loads of suspense, good visuals and the performances of Mohanlal & Samuthirakani(in a negative role). I felt Samuthirakani especially stole the show in Oppam. Vimala Raman as Devayani also gets a decent role and does very well(been many years since I last saw her on screen). It had its share of flaws too..once again, Mohanlal acts larger than life(can't blame him I guess). It seems like no producer or writer wants to quite take a risk of a role that shows Lal more realistically. Also, although the camera-work is good mostly, there are moments where Lal isn't captured well, in a way that isn't camera friendly especially a scene where Lal is tortured by cops in a shady place. I think this'd be the director's fault as it's his vision that's brought out by the cinematographer. Even excellent actors can struggle, so it's upto the director to conceal any weak edges of an actor. Inspite of these misses, Oppam gives edge of the seat thrills in many scenes and is also watchable with family.

An above average crime thriller.

Oppam is an above average suspense thriller with a tight screen play, wonderful cinematography and the ever wonder Mohanlal aka our Lalettan. The film marks the return of one of the most successful pair in Malayalam film industry , Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. Though they are known for their comedy films through out , this time they return with a thriller movie. The duos previous attempt on horror thriller Geethanjali, was a big let down, but that is not the case with Oppam. The story is good, suspense holds attention and the flow is occasionally fast ( there are places where the film get stretched more than needed) . Songs are good and apt to the film , the visuals are stunning , especially in songs . Background score is a bit loud to the level of irritating , should have damped it a bit. Mohanlal proves he has not yet lost his touch , supporting cast also does the job well. Apart from suspense there is a bit of everything in the film , humor, action ( if you are a Lalettan fan, there is a moment where you will whistle out loud ) and emotion. All in all it is a complete Onam package.

A blind man's quest ...awesome...

Malayalees were waiting for a Mohanlal super hit film since Drishyam. Priyadarshaan, who badly wanted a hit film in Malayalam joins hands with Mohanlal for giving rise to Oppam. When this class combo came together expectations were sky high. I have to say they didn't disappoint. Oppam is an entertaining watch for all category of audiences. It is a good crime thriller whose script could have been much better. ..

A Good Entertainer!

No spoilers ahead A very engaging movie from the most loved duo in malayalam film industry....Acting by Mohanlal is great..Good second half....but watching second half felt like watching movies like Cape Fear and Visaranai.....some of the scenes are inspired from these movies...The story is loosely similar to the story of Cape fear but has its novelty....Watch it for the mass kalari scene of lalettan ...especially for fans....good interval block...engaging camera work and awesome bgm...don't watch with ' drishyam' expectation....family emotions have been dealt well in the movie...Mamookoya's humour is spot on..

A blind man is the only witness to a murder

Oppam is well scripted and delivered; keeping the audience thrilled and engaged the entire duration of the movie. Mohanlal's (Lalettan) performance deserves to be appreciated along with other actors including P Samuthirakani, who portrays a negative role in the movie but more like an antagonist, seeking peace within himself rather justifying his actions for being wrongly accused previously. Priyadarshaan who directed many super-hit movies previously didn't disappoint many fans and audience alike. Though it was well conceived and scripted, it didn't feel like it was an original scripting rather a copy paste of scenes from various Malayalam movies, Tamil movies, Telugu Movies and many other English movies which I prefer not to mention as the list can get long and elongated. Anyway the movie is a blockbuster success at the box office though of its lack of originality. We as an audience enjoyed in spit of all flaws as we are die hard Mohanlal fans!
